The Rib Room, Gluten Free Dining – Dubai, UAE.
The Rib Room is essentially a fine dining restaurant for the carnivores amongst us. It truly is a meat lover’s paradise. I was so hungry (and perhaps a little ‘hangry’) when we arrived at the restaurant, but they were kind enough to bring me some gluten free bread straight away. The bread came with a very nice homemade pesto and garlic dip. And although the garlic was a little overpowering, it was extremely more-ish.
Note: the bread is rather filling so try not to eat too much. (Ugh, I hate that I sound like my mother saying that).
As I only ordered a main while dining here, I’m unable to comment on the starters or desserts. But honestly, some of the steaks are so big that you really don’t need to order anything else. After a lot of deliberation, I eventually decided to order the 300g tenderloin (the person dining with me ordered the 500g T-bone – and he’d thoroughly recommend it). All steaks come with a complimentary sauce and thanks to the new head chef (who only uses corn flour) I could have any sauce I wanted.
I was very excited about the sauce situation as most of the time I find that I’m limited to one sauce on the menu (that’s if I’m lucky). But more often than not, there’s no sauces ‘suitable’ for celiacs. Anyway, I choose the mushroom sauce this time but they have everything from butter and béarnaise, to red wine and peppercorn. I also ordered two side dishes; roasted vegetables (which were a little undercooked) and mashed potato with truffle oil (delicious but VERY filling). The mash was so good but it was so tempting to eat that instead of the steak. The steak was nice but I wouldn’t say it’s the best steak I’ve ever had. It was just nice.
Overall, I’d just say that this restaurant is ‘alright’. If you’re looking to dine at a steakhouse then there are definitely better steak restaurants out there. Nevertheless, the service was good and the chef knew exactly what he was talking about. But for me, it’s just not the type of place that you leave thinking ‘oh wow, I’d definitely come back here’.
