Pure Juice Bar in Athens, Greece
“Healthy eating nowadays is not just an option. It’s a necessity.” This might sound like the mission statement that embodies the philosophy behind Gem Lowes. But it’s actually the guiding mantra of Pure Juice Bar. If you’re wondering where to eat in Athens that’s healthy, my favourite juice and brunch place to hit up during a hectic weekend. It’s also a haven for those with celiac. If you’re looking to refuel and power up in a gluten-free way, this is the spot. They largely serve a range of fresh cold-press juices, smoothies and salad bowls. And they focus on raw fruit and vegetables rich in vitamins and minerals. You will be wowed when you walk into their café on Kolonaki street because of the variety of scents and freshness. It’s the clearest indication that you’re doing right by your body.
Whether I’m stopping by for lunch, brunch or breakfast there are two main things I’m thinking about. The Smoothies and the Buddha Bowls. The smoothies on offer are eclectic, to say the least, and it would take a lifetime to try them all (or maybe just a few weeks if you went every day!) but I can confidently say the Mermaid is to die for.
There’s something about avocado in a smoothie that just feels so right. It’s not the taste, you barely taste it, but the thickness and sensuality of the texture combined with the sour-sweet taste of mango just work. A coconutty finish is no crime either especially paired with the knowledge that you did right by your body and you’re ready for an epic day of exploring the city.
The Buddha Bowl
Now onto the bowls. Like with the smoothies, you are not short on options and props go to the staff for using their imaginations with some of the choices, especially given that many of them are both gluten-free and vegan. This healthy menu in Athens is undeniably delicious. You can’t go wrong with the classics though which is why I have to recommend the Salmon Poke. Hardly traditional, they opt for quinoa as the base and use smoked salmon instead of the traditional raw stuff. It works though, largely thanks to the absolutely delectable lime & Thai dressing which adds a kick of tang and fire without screwing your face up.
If you’re looking to fuel up for lunch and don’t know where to eat in Athens that’s healthy, you need to check out Pure Juice Bar and get a buddha bowl!
I’m of the humble opinion that no steak in the world trumps the taste of something that you know is good for your body. And I reckon Pure Juice Bar agrees. I can’t help but be impressed by the range of healthy vegan options on their healthy menu, not to mention they don’t use refined sugar in any of their products. They’re really nailing it. Admittedly, health comes at a premium here and the smoothies, in particular, are expensive compared to most alternatives in Athens. However, can you really put a price on health especially when it tastes this good?
