Prime 68, JW Marriott Marquis
Prime 68 is one of Dubai’s boutique steakhouses and is located on the 68th floor of the JW Marriott Marquis hotel in Business Bay. The views from the restaurant are incredible, yet the internal decoration and ambience is more than a match for the outside view. The décor is clean and classic, not overly extravagant, and is reminiscent of a chic New York restaurant. The service was exceptional, both from the waiters and from the Bar Manager, Mesrob, who adds to the experience and who has clearly learnt his trade in some of Manhattan’s finest restaurants.
To start I opted for the pan seared diver scallops with cauliflower puree and beet & pomegranate. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the sweetness of the pomegranate complemented the rest of the dish rather well. We also sampled the lobster bisque with hand whipped cream. Too often this dish does not live up to expectations, either due to the quality of the lobster or due to the balance not being achieved. Not so at Prime 68, the chef has truly perfected this recipe, with the richness of the whipped cream combined with the smoothness and silky texture of the soup. Highly recommended.
As Prime 68 is a boutique steakhouse it was only natural to order a steak for my main. We were informed that the meat providers are all carefully selected to ensure that only the highest quality steaks are served. In order to test this theory I thought it was only fair to opt for the tasting platter, which came with Blackmore Australian Wagyu, Argentinian Angus and USDA Prime. I was especially impressed with the knowledge of the chef who, via the waiter, informed me that he was not comfortable serving one of the sauces because it was made in another kitchen of the hotel and whilst the sauce was gluten free, he couldn’t guarantee that it would not have been contaminated. Once the mains arrived we were offered a selection of steak knives, which was a very nice touch.
And I was certainly not disappointed with the steaks. The meats all came perfectly cooked and full of flavour. On the side I was spoilt for choice with the wild mushrooms and grilled asparagus. The mushrooms were so delicious that I couldn’t help but order a second batch.
For dessert I would highly recommend the sorbets, a refreshing end to such a heavy meal. The options were plentiful but I decided to go for the mango and green apple. The mango was fresh whereas the apple was sharp. Delicious.
Prime 68 is a fantastic restaurant with great views, great food and great wine. With some of the finest cuts of meat that I have had the pleasure of eating in Dubai and an exceptional service to match, Prime 68 could easily become one of Dubai’s top venues.
