Manhattan Grill, Grand Hyatt Dubai – Gluten Free Dining, UAE
I’ve been to several steakhouses around the world and this by far was one of the nicest steaks I’ve ever had in my life. Words fail me. But before I get on to how delicious the steak was. And how I couldn’t possibly describe it because it was that good; I’ll take you through the dinner start to finish.
The Manhattan Grill, located inside the Grand Hyatt Dubai, looks like a classic American steakhouse. When we dined here we were lucky enough to have one of the heads chef’s visiting from the US. He even had a cowboy hat. How country. Anyway, once we were seated I informed the waiter that I had celiac. It was rather refreshing to find out that he knew exactly what that meant without me having to explain it. That’s a definite two thumbs up.
After a few minutes passed, the gluten free bread arrived. It was a type of ciabatta and arguably the nicest gluten free bread that I’ve eaten in a restaurant (FYI – my favourite brand is Genius. And it really does taste like ‘normal’ bread). But back to the waiter, who even brought over a separate butter plate to ensure there’d be no cross-contamination.
The entrée arrived; it was a white asparagus soup. And wow. It really did leave you wanting more. The dish was perfectly cooked and had a beautifully rich, creamy taste. Shortly after, our mains arrived. Two rare sirloin steaks that could’ve easily been eaten without sauce. Honestly, I’m a huge believer that this is one definite giveaway of a good quality steak restaurant.
The side dishes were equally good. I ordered cheesy potato gratin. I’ve tried this at various restaurants and find that the potato is either undercooked or overly soft. This was not the case at Manhattan Grill. It wasn’t too sickly either, which can sometimes be a problem when cheese is involved. I also ordered the corn brûlée, it was nice but a little too sweet for my taste. My partner ordered some form of cheese balls which I was unable to eat as they were coated in breadcrumbs. Anyway, he ate them rather quickly so I guess that means he enjoyed them?! Oh, and I opted for the mushroom sauce to accompany my steak. I didn’t require much of it as the steak was beautifully cooked. But it was delicious nevertheless.
After the amount of food we filled ourselves with, it will come as no shock that we had no room for dessert. Maybe next time. But what they did surprise us with was a range of little chocolates, all of which were gluten free. Yay.
Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys a good steak. The wait staff were extremely attentive, but not annoyingly so. Everyone was friendly and the food was amazing. One thing I would add, is the wine was on the expensive side. Other than that, absolutely no complaints.
