Avocado: Food for Life Vegan Cafe Athens, Greece
This vegan restaurant in Athens’ name could not be more true because, well, avocados are life! 2021 is a huge milestone for them. It’s their tenth year in business serving wholesome vegetarian food! Avocado offers patrons a fusion menu from Europe, Far East and South America. The focus primarily being high-quality vegetables. I was hoping there would be a diverse number of options for me, so I was disheartened to see that the gluten-free options were restricted to the Rice/Grain bowls.
Avocado’s vegan restaurant in Athens has a laidback atmosphere that’s quite deceptive. Not only because their menu is more traditional. But because their food is something you’d see in a restaurant. There is floor seating on cushions for those wanting to relax, but tables and chairs are available too. The dishes were aesthetically gorgeous and were packed with an array of fresh produce. Avocado has a shiitake mushroom risotto on its menu, a difficult dish to execute for even a master chef.
I had the Oven Roasted Beet Salad as my main course. The beets had been roasted which enhanced their natural sweetness. The warm salad was finished with manouri goat and sheep cheese for some tang and creaminess. The salad was served with a honey, balsamic and mustard dressing. And the warm beet salad was fantastic. Warm salads are generally not popular on menus, so it was exciting to see one on Avocados.
Avocado’s Raw Chocolate Tart was calling my name from the dessert menu because, well, I’m a bit of a sweet tooth. Despite being completely sugar-free, the tart was decadent and satisfied my sweet tooth. The rich chocolate tart was made with cocoa powder, coconut oil, avocado and agave syrup. The Avocado gave the tart a lovely creamy texture. And lastly, the crust was made with crushed almonds and dates making it a completely vegan and gluten-free dessert.
